# OpenAI's AI Smart Speaker Reportedly Priced at $300-$400

## AI commentary

> The most striking part is the price range: $300-$400 puts OpenAI's hardware squarely in the premium lane, signaling a battle on AI capability rather than price. For hardware ecosystem players, voice-interaction startups, and investors, this is a signal worth watching: OpenAI is moving down the stack to build end-to-end products. The real test will be whether it can deliver an interaction experience truly distinct from existing smart speakers—otherwise, that price will be hard to justify to mainstream consumers.

The device, previously shrouded in secrecy, now appears to be priced at a premium range, signaling OpenAI's direct entry into the consumer hardware market to compete with Amazon, Google, and other smart speaker makers. While specific features and release dates remain unknown, the price point suggests advanced AI interaction capabilities that could shake up the voice assistant landscape.
