# SkyPilot and Hugging Face Launch Zero-Egress Cloud Storage Solution

## AI commentary

> For teams that frequently train models across clouds, this feature is almost a must-have. No more worrying about skyrocketing egress bills, and storage with versioning directly leverages the Hugging Face ecosystem. Worth immediate trial for all MLOps engineers and platform teams.

## At a glance

SkyPilot and Hugging Face have unveiled a novel solution that lets users run AI workloads on any cloud while storing data on Hugging Face with zero egress costs. By optimizing data flow, the approach avoids vendor lock-in and expensive data transfer fees, especially beneficial for frequent read/write operations and model training. Users can leverage SkyPilot's scheduling capabilities to flexibly choose cloud resources and Hugging Face Hub's storage and version control for efficient, low-cost AI development.

## Key points

- Supports running SkyPilot-scheduled workloads on any major cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) with storage backend unified to Hugging Face Hub.
- Zero egress fees: data written from cloud to Hugging Face incurs no external bandwidth costs.
- Streamlines AI workflow: no extra data pipeline needed—model checkpoints, datasets, and logs can be managed directly on Hugging Face.
- Addresses cloud lock-in: users can switch underlying cloud providers at any time without affecting storage layer and data access.
