  1. AI and Liability: German Court Rules Google Liable for AI Overview Errors
    T2Simon Willison 博客(Atom)

Bruce Schneier comments on a recent German ruling holding Google liable for errors in their AI overviews, arguing that AI agents should be treated by law as agents of the person or organization that deploys them. If a company hired human writers, it would be liable for inaccuracies; allowing businesses to hide behind faulty AI creates disastrous incentives for corporate misbehavior.

    T2arXiv AI/CL/LG(论文)

  4. Equivalence between Blackwell Approachability and Gradient Equilibrium
    T2arXiv AI/CL/LG(论文)

This paper establishes the algorithmic equivalence between Gradient Equilibrium (GEQ) and Blackwell approachability. GEQ is a recently introduced online optimization framework that generalizes first-order stationarity from offline optimization and abstracts problems like online conformal prediction. By constructing bidirectional reductions, the paper reveals deep connections between GEQ and classical online learning frameworks such as regret minimization and calibration. It also identifies necessary and sufficient conditions for GEQ and provides reductions between different notions of GEQ under unconstrained and constrained decision sets. This work provides a key piece for unifying online learning theory.

  1. Optimal Sample Complexity Fast Algorithm for Learning Gaussian under Halfspace Truncation
    T2arXiv AI/CL/LG(论文)

This paper proposes an efficient algorithm for learning a high-dimensional Gaussian truncated to an unknown halfspace. The algorithm requires only Õ(d²/ε²) samples to achieve error ε in total variation distance, and both sample and time complexity are optimal in terms of dimension d and accuracy ε, even when there is no truncation. The key innovation is a novel reinterpretation of low-degree moments of the truncated Gaussian in terms of a relative truncation parameter, which directly recovers the untruncated Gaussian parameters, bypassing the time-intensive projected stochastic gradient descent procedure.

  2. Recovering Governing Equations from Solution Data: Identifiability Boundaries for Linear and Nonlinear ODEs
    T2arXiv AI/CL/LG(论文)

This paper investigates the theoretical conditions for uniquely and stably identifying a ground-truth ODE from multiple solution observations. By introducing the Hausdorff distance on solution sets as a natural metric for comparing differential equations, it establishes identifiability bounds for linear and Lipschitz/Hölder continuous nonlinear ODE classes, and derives metric entropy estimates and sample complexity lower bounds, providing theoretical guarantees for governing equation discovery in scientific machine learning.

  3. Beyond Surface Form: A Comprehensive, Mechanism-Oriented Taxonomy of Indirect Language Encoding for LLM-Based Coded Language Detection
    T2arXiv AI/CL/LG(论文)

Social media users often employ indirect linguistic expressions (ILE) to evade content moderation, such as algospeak, euphemisms, and adversarial obfuscation. Existing taxonomies focus on communicative intent, leading to unstable detection. This paper proposes a comprehensive, mechanism-oriented taxonomy that abstracts underlying encoding operations and integrates it into LLM prompts. On 2,000 manually annotated TikTok and Bluesky posts, the new taxonomy achieves the strongest document- and span-level performance across three LLMs, with a 4.7% accuracy improvement and 5.4% F1 improvement, providing a stable scaffold for detecting emerging coded language.

  4. Syntactic Belief Update: A New Explanation for Garden Path Sentence Processing Difficulty
    T2arXiv AI/CL/LG(论文)

Garden path sentences pose processing difficulty for humans: the sentence prefix leads the listener towards one interpretation until a critical word reveals the initial interpretation was wrong. Lexical surprisal, which usually predicts processing difficulty well, fails for these sentences. This paper proposes an alternative: actively predict a probability distribution over syntactic trees (syntactic belief) and update it after each word. If the processor is led down a garden path, beliefs become wrong and require a large update at the critical word. The update magnitude is measured by generalized Rényi divergence, which depends on lexical items but is fully independent of their probability. Syntactic Belief Update provides a better fit to human reading time data, suggesting a new research direction for purely non-lexical alternatives to surprisal in psycholinguistics.
